We don’t often visit Estepona, a Costa del Sol resort that’s regularly overlooked by visitors drawn to the brighter lights of Marbella. But we’ve discovered a reason to keep going back – the best street art on the Costa del Sol.
The Estepona Murals Route takes in 22 (and counting) stunning murals, a project that’s not only brightening up some rather drab façades but showcasingsome amazing artistic skills. Here’s a selection of our favourites:

‘Fishing Day’ is Spain’s largest mural and covers five façades. The perspective is amazing and the artist has lined up the fishing rod, line and horizon perfectly across all the façades. And then you discover it only took three weeks to paint. To get the full picture, stand on the painted arrow on the pavement.

The same artist has just finished the latest addition to the Estepona murals. ‘Watering the Garden’ is quite simply breathtaking and we were very taken with how the artist has given the picture this depth on such a huge surface. You really feel you could turn the tap on and off, it’s that real.

Nano4814 is one of Spain’s best known street artists and graphic designers. We loved this one and the vibrant colours really brighten up this part of town

Not as colourful as the others, but this ‘Child’s Glance’ turns this ordinary corner into a striking portrait. And you can get right up to this one. (The boy’s looking at the giant fish mural just across the road.)

This one is actually of the boy’s sister, but I was really taken with the bowl of food, which turns out to be lentils, so real you could put your hand out and taste a few yourself except that they’re well out of reach.

The circus comes to town permanently with this mural titled ‘Come In and See’. We loved the colours and the sense of flight you get from looking at the picture.
The Estepona murals are an on-going project and more are planned over the next few months. We’ll definitely be back for updates.
